Meteorites Collection

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and Founder the University of Sharjah, has generously donated to the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology, an extensive collection of meteorites collected from all over the world.

The Unique Collection

The SAASST meteorite collection has some visually impressive and huge iron meteorites for exhibition purposes. There are over three thousand Kilograms ( 3,000 Kg ) of iron Meteorites, in various sizes from ten kilograms to nine hundred Kilograms.

The collection is enormous. It comprises more than 8,000 extraterrestrial items:

Rare Meteorites

A collection of over 485 exotic and rare meteorites from all around the world of many different qualifications. This includes several “Lunar” and “Martian” meteorites, as well as rare Iron meteorites, Stony meteorites, Stony-iron meteorites, Mesosiderite meteorites, Impact Breccia category, Shatter Cone category, and many more.

Glass Meteorites

A collection of many thousand individual Tektites (glass meteorites) from various parts of the world, of many different categories, including Micro-tektites, Muong-Nong Tektites, Splash-form Tektites, etc.

Impact Breccia

A collection of many pieces of Impact Glass and Impact Breccia category.

A collection of more than 500 kilograms of various sizes of Tektites.

Genuine Meteorite

Including in the Collection is also a fuel cell of the Soviet SALYUT-7, from the 1960s and 14 framed Art pictures containing over 60 pieces of genuine meteorite.
