A delegation from EPFL Visits the University of Sharjah and SAASST

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) has received the visit of Prof. Jean-Paul Kneib from the EPFL SB IPHYS LASTRO and Dr. Fadi Bayoud, the Deputy Director for EPFL Middle East, based in Ras Al-Khaimah. EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne) is one of the most prestigious schools in Europe in the fields of engineering, technology, and computer science, according to the Shanghai Academic Ranking of World Universities. In 2011, it was in second place among European universities, behind Cambridge University (UK).

The SAASST research assistants met with the Swiss delegation to discuss possible research collaboration related to SAASST research laboratories. EPFL research is focused on critical areas such as data science, personalized health, biomedical engineering, energy, robotics, and advanced manufacturing. These areas are all in line with the University of Sharjah and SAASST research themes.

Prior to SAASST visit, the Swiss delegation visited the University of Sharjah and met with HE Prof. Hamid Al-Naimiy, the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, to discuss collaboration between UoS and EPFL. The meeting was attended by Prof. Maamar Bettayeb, the Vice-Chancellor for Research, Prof. Ahmed Al-Shemma, the Dean of the College of Engineering, Prof. Nouar Thabet, the Dean of the College of Sciences, Prof. Gaffar Attaelmanan, Chairman of the Department for Applied Physics and Astronomy, and Dr. Antonios Manousakis, Assistant Professor at DAPA.

The Swiss delegation visit was arranged and organized by Dr. Antonios Manousakis through his close collaboration with Prof. Jean-Paul Kneib.
