Renovation of SAASST Decametric Radio Telescope (DRT)

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology has completely renovated the Decametric Radio Telescope (DRT) that works at 20.1 MHz. Mr. Mohamed Rihan, the coordinator of the DRT, along with his team Mr. Issam Abujami (IT Director), Mr. Anas Omar Adwan (Maintenance Engineer), Mr. Abdallah  Atoui  (Research Assistant), and Mr.  Ismail Abbas Zein (Research Assistant) have spent the whole of Nov. 14-18, 2021 working on the much-

needed renovation. This included changing the old coax cables for the DRT1 and DRT2 arrays, casing the new coax cable network, and changing the dipoles feeding points. The DRT is an important radio observatory to observe solar radio bursts and the Jupiter-Io interaction. Since its installation in 2019, the DRT observed more than 50 solar radio bursts and tens of Jupiter-Io long and short bursts. In addition, the research group associated with the DRT has published several high-quality papers promoting SAASST as a major hub for radio astronomy research.
