Prof. Hamid thanked SAASST's staff for its excellent dedicated work and strong commitment to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and former President of the University of Sharjah. Prof. Hamid discussed the role of each unit (administration, planetarium, academic, and research) in promoting SAASST to the MENA level, especially in research and public outreach. SAASST's planetarium is the largest in the region, and with the upcoming grade, no other planetarium in the world can match its state-of-art instruments. SAASST's research is at its peak, with hundreds of publications in high-standard journals and conferences. The new IAF membership is just one indicator that SAASST has joined the elite of international space sciences organizations.
Prof. Hamid carefully listened to the employees' concerns regarding promotion, work environment, conferences attendances, petty cash, and SAASST's status as a research institute among the three University of Sharjah research institutions (RISE, SIMHR, and RIHSS). As a result, Prof. Hamid promised that SAASST would have a special status with respect to the University of Sharjah in light of its HR and finances.
Prof. Hamid also took the occasion to check on the upgrade of the planetarium. The 10 million DHS upgrade will put SAASST's planetarium at the top worldwide. The works are expected to end by March 2023.
