The lecture was on "The beginning of the universe in the Holy Quran." Prof. Hamid gave a possible explanation of the various verses of the Holy Quran as related to the Universe as a whole and the formation and death of stars. Prof. Hamid insisted that the interpretation of the Quranic verses is in light of our present astronomical knowledge based on ground and space observations.
This year's 4th edition theme was "Scientific Tradition in Islamic Civilization." This winter school is organized by the Sharjah International Foundation for the History of Arab and Muslim Sciences (SIFHAMS) in collaboration with the Institute of Physics at the University of Cologne (Germany), MES Mampad College (India), and the Islamic University of Technology (Bangladesh).
This winter school gives intensive graduate course study and training at the MA and Ph.D. levels on the contributions of Muslims to the sciences throughout the history of Islamic Civilization. In addition, it offers a number of sessions dealing with various aspects and issues in Islamic Civilization. The program was presented in Arabic and English, where simultaneous translation was available. The program was Hybrid (online and on-site).
