UAE Astronauts Visit to SAASST

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah received the visit of the two UAE astronauts, Sultan Saif Al Neyadi and Hazzaa Al Mansoori, at the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology on November 30, 2023.

His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and President of the University of Sharjah, along with His Excellency Prof. Hamid Mujawel Al-Nuaimi, the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, did also greed the two astronauts.

 

Hazzaa Al Mansoori made history as the first Emirati astronaut to embark on a space mission, capturing the world's attention during his visit to the International Space Station (ISS). On September 25, 2019, Al Mansoori, a former pilot in the United Arab Emirates Air Force, lifted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan aboard the Soyuz MS-15 spacecraft. His eight-day mission aboard the ISS was a testament to the UAE's commitment to space exploration and scientific advancements. During his stay in space, Al Mansoori conducted various experiments and communicated with Earth, fostering international collaboration in space research. His journey symbolized a personal achievement and a significant milestone for the UAE, showcasing its growing presence in the global space community.

 

Sultan Al Neyadi was one of the three astronauts of the Crew-6 mission by NASA and SpaceX. Al Neyadi and his Crew team launched from Cape Canaveral in Florida on March 2, 2023. The crew was assigned more than 200 science experiments. Sultan also carried out more than 19 science investigations assigned to him by universities across the UAE. Most of the science work involved research on how microgravity affects the human body and mind. Others included harvesting plants from the ISS nursery. Al Neyadi also recently became the first Arab to undertake a spacewalk during Expedition 69, along with NASA astronaut Stephen Bowen. Sultan Al Neyadi landed back on Earth on September 4, 2023.
