SAASST Participates in the World Radio Communication Conference

The CubeSat Lab from the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) participated on Dec. 05, 2023, in the World Radio Communication Conference (WRC).

This is organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the United Nations office specialized agency for information and communication technologies, and the UAE’s Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA). Engs. Yousuf Faroukh, Abdulrahman Suleiman, Ahmed Al-Tunaiji, Ali Al-Majedi, Nafissa Zian, Amal al-Ketbi, and Fatima Al-Ketbi represented SAASST at this international conference.

The WRC is held in Dubai from Nov. 20 to Dec. 15. The WRC is a pivotal international event that convenes experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss and make decisions related to the allocation of radio-frequency spectrum and satellite orbits. Radio-frequency allocation is of great national and international importance as communication frequencies are finite. Many considerations must be put in place when selecting frequencies and radio transmissions. This is to avoid disruption with other national users such as emergency services, phone operators, and ships while avoiding interference with other nations that might be using the same frequency for different applications.
