SAASST Participates in the UAE Space Agency Workshop "UAE Innovates 2021"

In commemoration of the UAE Golden Jubilee and the UAE Innovation Week, which is being held under the slogan "UAE Innovates 2021", the UAE Space Agency has organized a workshop to stimulate innovative thinking and explore innovations in the national space sector. The workshop hosted a series of presentations from the Emirates Space and Innovation Group (ESIG).

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) was invited to highlight its recent research developments. Prof. Ilias Fernini, the Deputy General for Research, has given a fresh update on the academy's significant achievements along with Dr. Antonios Manousakis (High Energy Astrophysics Laboratory) and Dr. Mubasshir Shaikh (Space Weather and Ionospheric Laboratory). Four specifics areas were discussed during the talk: (1) the Sharjah Lunar Impact Observatory), (2) the Sharjah-Sat-1 CubeSat, (3) the High Energy Astrophysics program, and (4) the Space Weather program at the academy. Prof. Ilias emphasized the critical role that SAASST plays in promoting space sciences research in the UAE. He also mentioned that SAASST experts are all stationed in the UAE and that SAASST's instruments are world-class and state-of-the-art instruments. Prof. Ilias presented the different academic programs that the University of Sharjah has recently launched: the MSc. in Astronomy and Space Sciences, and the MSc. in GIS and RS. Several students are enrolled in each program. A final note was given in terms of the new research laboratories that SAASSt is planning, i.e., the Space Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the Space Robotics Laboratory, the Rockets Propulsion Laboratory, the SAASST Data center,  and the machine shop.
