Asteroid Day June 30, 2021 Celebration

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) will celebrate the International Asteroid Day on June 30, 2021. The main objectives of the asteroid day are to raise public awareness about the asteroid impact hazard, save the Earth from asteroids, and increase the asteroid discovery rate to 100,000 per year compared to a couple of hundreds per year. These goals can be achieved by using new technologies to detect and track

Near-Earth-Asteroids (NEA) that threaten human populations. SAASST is within these objectives with its “Meteorite Center” and its different units, i.e., the “Analysis Unit,” “Machine Learning,” “Drone Unit,” and the “UAEMMN Unit.”

 

A special program has been worked out by SAASST research assistants to celebrate “Asteroid Day June 30”:

 

10:00 – 10:15 - Opening Ceremony – Prof. Ilias Fernini (15 minutes)

10:15 – 10:30 - Lecture 1 – SAASST and its Research Laboratories – Dr. Mubashir Shaikh (15 minutes)

10:30 – 10:45 - Lecture 2 – What are Space Debris? – Mr. Mohamed Baker Rihan (15 minutes)

10:45 – 11:00 - Lecture 3 – Near Earth Objects – Mrs. Maryam Essa Sharif (15 minutes)

11:00 – 11:15 - Lecture 4 – SAASST Meteorite Collection – Ms. Salma Subhi (15 minutes)

11:15 – 11:30 - Lecture 5 – UAEMMN – Mr. Anas Omar Adwan (15 minutes)

11:30  - 11:45 – Lecture 6 – SAASST Asteroids Discoveries – Mr. Mohamed Talafha (15 minutes)

11:45 – 12:00 - Concluding Remarks – Prof. Ilias Fernini
