SAASST Meets with SPACE India

A virtual general activity with SPACE India was conducted on Aug. 07, 2020 by Dr. Ilias Fernini, SAASST Deputy General Director for Research Laboratories where more than 700 Indian space enthusiasts from all ages attended the presentation. The main theme was “Space Exploration” and in particular, “Martian Exploration”, in light of the launch of the UAE Mars Hope Mission on July 20, 2020.

Dr. Ilias gave a short presentation about SAASST and its different units, community outreach, academia, research laboratories, and astronomical observatories. The presentation was followed by questions and answers from the participants, mostly students of different ages and levels. Most of the questions were dedicated to Mars, but some were about how to pursue a space sciences career, and which field of study is more appropriate than the other. The questions were well presented and the students were very eager to know more about space exploration and future Martian settlement. The activity took more than one hour and half, just to show the big interests of the young minds about sciences in general, and space sciences in particular. Dr. Ilias advised the students to pursue STEM specialization tracks in sciences and engineering for anyone willing to be involved in space exploration at any level. He emphasized that Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are the pillars of any career in space sciences.

The activity ended with wishes from both parties to collaborate and exchange ideas to promote general outreach activities for students at all levels through common programs. Dr. Ilias invited the students to use SAASST research facilities to do their astronomical projects in close collaboration with SAASST research assistants.
