SAASST Celebrates World Space Week

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology is renowned for its dynamic celebration of World Space Week, an event that ignites excitement and curiosity about the cosmos.

On October 4, 2023, Prof. Ilias Fernini, the Space Sciences Department Director at the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), joined with Mrs. Aisha Al-Owais (Space Artificial Intelligence) and Mrs. Maryam Eisa (Meteorite Center), participated at a groundbreaking workshop organized by Azercosmos, the Azerbaijan Space Agency.

Between Sep. 19, 2023, and Sep. 24, 2023, several radio bursts were detected using the Low-frequency Radio Telescope at SAASST. The sunspots AR3435 and AR3445 pose a continued threat of strong Earth-directed solar flares.

The Sharjah Academy of Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAAST) will have a formidable presence and active engagement at the 74th International Astronautical Congress held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from October 2 to 6, 2023.

SAASST Graduation for Fall 2023/2024

Mr. Daniel Nachar, a French student at the Graduate School of Electronics Engineering & Computer Science “ENSEA” (Paris, France), spent one month at the SAASST CubeSat Laboratory as part of an international internship program.

On Sep. 21, 2023, the University of Sharjah and the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology orchestrated a historic occasion as they officially signed the Sharjah-Sat-2 agreement with three vital governmental bodies: the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA), the Municipality, and the Department of Planification.

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology organized on Sep. 20, 2023, a lecture under the title "The Weather Machine 1." Mr. Mohamed Rihan, a research assistant at the Radio Astronomy Laboratory, gave the talk.

SAASST Participation in Physics Orientation Day

On Sep. 20, 2023, the Applied Physics and Astronomy Department at the University of Sharjah welcomed its new students with an exciting orientation and annual gathering.

The UAE Space Agency, in partnership with the Federal Competitiveness and Statistics Centre, announced the findings of the 2021 Space Economic Survey.

On Sep. 15, 2023, the Low-Frequency Radio Telescope at SAASST detected a double solar radio burst of type III in the decametric and metric radio bands at 08:57 UT (12:57 LT).

A team of engineers from the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences & Technology CubeSat and Rocket Propulsion and Exhaust System Laboratory (RPESL) attended The "Future of Aerospace" seminar hosted by ASPIRE and the US-UAE Business Counsel on Sep. 12, 2023 in Abu Dhabi.

On September 9, 2023, Mrs. Maryam Essa Sharif, a Space Technology Engineer at the Space Sciences Department at the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy Space Sciences and Technology (SAASST), appeared on Sharqiya Channel's "Hadeeth Al Masaa" at 9:00 p.m.

SAASST Space Sciences Future Projects

Prof. Ilias Fernini, the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology Director of the Space Sciences Department, lectured on Sep. 06, 2023, about the 'SAASST Space Sciences Future Projects."

The "Inspiring Youth in Future Careers" Dialogue Session, organized by the Voluntary Association "Forsan Emirates" on August 31, 2023, was a captivating and enlightening three-hour experience.

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) has just installed a 4.5-meter S-band ground station, a unique tool in the MENA region. The SAASST CubeSat and maintenance engineers started the installation on Jul. 23.

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology attended on Aug. 04, 2023, a workshop under the title "AI for Visual Inspection or Quality Control" workshop hosted by Coders HQ Dubai.

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology participated in the 2023 Asia-Pacific Regional IAU Meeting (APRIM 2023 – Aug. 07-11, 2023) with two papers.

UAEMMN Observation Report Perseid Shower

The Perseids are one of the major meteor showers primarily observed in the northern hemisphere. Active from July 14 to September 1, its peak is typically around August 12 or 13. This meteor shower is a consequence of the Earth’s intersection with the debris trail from Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle.
