Solar Flare Causing a Radio Burst

On Oct. 11, 2022, two jets of dark plasma shot out of the sunspot AR3116, causing a strong type II radio burst. The Low-Frequency Radio Telescope at SAASST detected this wide-range radio burst at 08:39 UT (12:39 local time).

MBRSC Visit to SAASST

SAASST Participation in SPACE 2101

A team from the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology participated in the one-week program organized by STEMPunks, Starlight Education, and Innoventures Education. The program was under the theme “Space 2101”.

Mr. Mohammad Musharraf, a SAASST research assistant at the Radio Astronomy Laboratory, gave a general lecture under the title "Discoveries in Radio Astronomy" on Oct. 12, 2022.

SAASST Planetarium Upgrade

The planetarium of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) is undergoing a major upgrade that will see most of its display systems replaced with state-of-the-art digital projectors. The upgrade started on September 01, 2022 and is expected to end in its first phase on March 31, 2023.

HE Prof. Hamid Al-Naimiy's Visit to SAASST

HE Prof. Hamid Al-Naimiy, the Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, and Director General of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), made a courteous visit to SAASST on Thursday, Oct. 06, 2022, and met all SAASST employees.

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology started its series of general lectures for the academic year 2022-2023 with a lecture title “All About Clouds” to celebrate the "World Ozone Day" of Sep. 16, 2022. The lecture was presented by Mr. Mohamed Rihan, a research assistant at the Radio Astronomy Laboratory.

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) is participating in the 73rd International Astronautical Congress in Paris for the period of Sep. 18-22, 2022, with an exceptional number of 16 papers.

After being approved as a full member of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 2019, the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) has now been approved to be a full member of the prestigious International Astronautical Federation (IAF).

Radio Blackout Followed by Solar Flare

The Low-Frequency Radio Telescope at SAASST detected a sudden ionospheric disturbance from 11:05-11:20 (15:05-15:20 local time) on Aug. 29, 2022.  This radio blackout affected frequencies below 21 MHz.

To prepare the stage for the UAE Rockets Launch Capabilities, the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology is initiating a new lab, "Rockets Propulsion and Exhaust Systems Laboratory."

Solar Flare Caused a Radio Blackout

The active sunspot AR3078 has been flaring almost constantly since it developed. This compact and magnetically complex sunspot grouping is currently located just west of the Sun’s central meridian in the southern hemisphere.

The planetarium unit of the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) welcomed 12 for a three-day exciting workshop about building a Mars rover. Mr. Marwan Shwaiki and Mr. Ahmed Salaheldin ran the workshop in all aspects.

YahSat Youth Council Visits SAASST

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) welcomed 20 students from the YahSat Youth Council for a special program on Aug. 08, 2022. The program began with an introduction to the Academy.

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) participated in the XXXIst General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union held in South Korea (Aug. 02-11, 2022).

The Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development, in collaboration with the  Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST), organized a three-week diploma program in astronomy during the period July 17 – August 04, 2022.

The Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences, and Technology (SAASST) participated in the "Qayd Al Dhaid" event in its 2nd edition and several government agencies.
